How the Google Ads AI assistant works
WeProfit connects your AI assistant to the Google Ads accounts connected to your store. When you ask a question, the assistant reads what it needs live from Google Ads, the way you would browse the account, and answers in plain words. Nothing in the account is changed.
The assistant does the analysis and writes the suggestions; WeProfit provides the data. The recommendations are the assistant’s, and you decide what to change in Google Ads.
The same connection reads WeProfit’s numbers for your store, so the assistant can set Google’s cost and conversions next to the orders, net profit and POAS WeProfit attributes to each campaign. With both in one conversation, you can ask which campaigns look good in Google Ads and which also make a profit.
To see the profit numbers the assistant reads, open the live demo of the WeProfit dashboard with sample data. The demo does not include the AI connection.
What the AI reads in your Google Ads account
The assistant reads the whole connected account, not only the campaigns you count in WeProfit’s profit reports. Metrics come as Google reports them, in the account’s currency: impressions, clicks, CTR, average CPC, cost, conversions, conversion value, cost per conversion, conversion rate, all conversions and view-through conversions.
| Area | What the assistant reads |
|---|---|
| Campaigns | Status, campaign type, daily budget, bidding strategy and targets, search impression share, top and absolute top impression rates, and impression share lost to budget and to rank |
| Ad groups and keywords | Ad groups with their default bids; keywords with match type, status, bids, Quality Score and its 3 parts |
| Search terms | The searches that showed your ads, with their status and results |
| Ads and assets | Responsive search ad headlines and descriptions, final URLs and ad strength; assets with their performance label, pinning and conversions |
| Performance Max | Asset groups and their assets, and the placements where ads showed |
| Extensions, audiences and targeting | Sitelinks, callouts, structured snippets, calls and images; audiences; the locations, languages, devices, demographics and schedule set on campaigns and ad groups |
| Where, who and when | Results by country, region and city, by device, by age, gender and household income, and by day of the week and hour |
| Landing pages and products | Landing pages and Shopping products with their results |
| Conversions, budgets and bidding | Conversions by conversion action, budgets and bid strategies, and a day-by-day trend |
| Negatives, history and recommendations | Campaign and ad group negative keywords and shared negative keyword lists, the change history of the last 30 days, and Google’s recommendations with the optimization score |
| Anything else | Any other read-only report written in the Google Ads Query Language (GAQL), for whatever else the Google Ads interface shows |
Ask which Google Ads campaigns work and which waste money
Google Ads reports its own conversions. WeProfit adds what happened in your store: the orders it attributes to each campaign, their revenue after refunds, product costs and fees, and the net profit after ad spend. With both in one conversation, the assistant can point out which campaigns pay back, which spend without profitable sales and where the two sources disagree.
Name the store, the dates and what success means to you, such as a break-even ROAS or a target cost per sale. An answer can be a short list or table: the campaign, keyword or search term, Google’s numbers, WeProfit’s numbers where they exist, and the assistant’s suggestion, such as lowering a bid, adding a negative keyword or moving budget. These are example questions, not recorded customer results.
- Which of my Google Ads campaigns made a profit in the last 30 days, and which lost money after product costs and fees?
- Which search terms spent money without a sale last month, and which should become negative keywords?
- Which keywords have a low Quality Score, and which of its 3 parts holds them back?
- Is a profitable campaign losing impression share to its budget?
- Which responsive search ad headlines and assets have the weakest performance labels?
- What changed in the account in the last 2 weeks, and did the results move after it?
- Go through Google’s recommendations and tell me which ones fit what my results show.
Find new keywords with the Google Keyword Planner
The assistant can use the Google Ads Keyword Planner through your own Google Ads account, the one connected to any of your stores in WeProfit. Nothing is saved: no keyword plan is created and no keyword is added to the account.
By default, the location is the country most of the store’s purchases came from in the last 90 days, else its visitors’ country, else its time zone’s country, else the US, and the language is that country’s main language; the answer says what it assumed. Ask for another country, region, city or language by name, for example: find keyword ideas for my product page in the US with search volumes and bid ranges, or forecast clicks and cost for these 20 keywords at a daily budget of $50.
- Keyword ideas from a few words, a page URL or your whole site, and if you want, without the keywords the account already has.
- Average monthly searches with the last 12 months of volumes, competition and top-of-page bid ranges for each idea.
- Search volumes for your own list of up to 200 keywords.
- A forecast of clicks, impressions, cost and conversions for keywords with match types, a daily budget and a bid strategy. Google’s forecast has no conversion value.
- Ideas grouped by the ad groups they fit, with the keywords that fit none flagged.
- Location and language lookups, so the research covers the right market.
A hosted Google Ads MCP server, with Meta and TikTok too
The assistant reaches your Google Ads account through WeProfit’s MCP server, https://api.weprofit.com/mcp. MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is the open standard that ChatGPT, Claude and other AI apps use to call tools.
You do not need a Google Ads developer token, a Google Cloud project or a server of your own. Connect your Google Ads account to WeProfit once, and every AI app you connect gets the same read-only tools.
The same server reads the Meta and TikTok ad accounts connected to your store and your WeProfit data, so one connection does the work of a Google Ads MCP, a Meta Ads MCP (Facebook Ads MCP) and a store data MCP for your Shopify store. It does not read or change your Shopify admin. One conversation can compare Google Ads with Meta, and both with your profit. With Google Analytics 4 connected in WeProfit, it also reads your store’s Google Analytics 4 property and Search Console data, read-only, so one conversation can cover your campaigns, your traffic and the Google searches that show your store.
Set up AI for Google Ads in WeProfit
You need a WeProfit account with your store connected, and ChatGPT, Claude or another MCP app.
- Connect your Google Ads account to the store: under Profit > Ad spend > Ad accounts, or under Ad Networks > Google Ads if you also send purchases to Google Ads.
- In WeProfit, open Developer and find Connect your AI (MCP). Choose ChatGPT, Claude or Other apps and follow its steps; when the app asks, sign in to WeProfit and select Approve.
- Ask a first question with the store and dates, such as: list my Google Ads campaigns for the last 30 days with cost, conversions and WeProfit’s net profit.
- For keyword research, ask for ideas, search volumes or a forecast. A Google Ads account connected to any of your stores is enough.
Read-only by design: the AI suggests, you decide
The assistant can read your Google Ads account but never change it. It cannot create, edit, pause or remove campaigns, ad groups, keywords or ads, change budgets or bids, apply recommendations or save a Keyword Planner plan. These reads send Google only read requests.
Access follows your WeProfit permissions. Live reads need the store’s settings permission, which store owners always have; staff also need Developer access.
Treat the assistant’s suggestions as ideas to check against the account. They cannot guarantee an advertising result, and Google’s conversions and WeProfit’s attributed orders can differ for good reasons. WeProfit is an independent product: its read access to Google Ads and the Keyword Planner does not mean that Google endorses or recommends WeProfit.
Limits of the Google Ads reads
Some limits come from Google and some from WeProfit’s daily allowances.
- Google Auction Insights is not available. You can see it in your Google Ads account under Campaigns > Insights and reports > Auction insights. Search impression share is available.
- Change history covers the last 30 days, Google’s limit.
- One answer reads up to 5 connected Google Ads accounts, each in its own currency; amounts in different currencies are never added together.
- Answers are cached for 10 minutes and Keyword Planner answers for 24 hours. Each store has a daily allowance of live requests, and the answer says when it resets.
